Currently I am a nurse

But please don’t ask medical advice here cos this is more TCSS and in case there are some things u always wanted to know and I try to answer

Please don’t ask medical advice here as this is not the place for it

Any case studies or examples I give will be fictionalised to ensure confidentiality even if the case happened decades ago

You from public or Pte sector?
Where you acquired your nursing skills? NYP? Do you think it's necessary to have degree in nursing?
Those cecas, Jhks, pinoys qualified or not?

Better don't ask anything. we are in the Great Reset many peepurs will be killed.

Both. I worked both public and private

Acquired my basic education in Nyp

Degree in nursing? Depends. Do you want to be promoted to management? Do you want to get out of hospital and maybe teach nursing instead as a lecturer in NYP? If yes, a degree is necessary. If you are content to be stuck at SSN level until you retire, a degree is not necessary in Singapore

As for Jhk ceca etc, my experience is they are qualified. Maybe the work culture is different but otherwise qualified

in fact, many of the Pinoys are over qualified. They are trained RN in philippines but cos of experience can only be enrolled nurses or health care assistants in Singapore. But they are qualified and have the skills

So the average Singaporean RN will do well to listen to their advice even though the RN is ultimately the one in charge.

Obviously there are lazy bums and such so one has to be careful who u take advice from

I have so much respect for nurses in general. Esp. after both my grandparents got admitted to hospital in recent years and subsequently passed away

It's really tough to take care of ailing patients as they need help round the clock 24/7

And the hospital is such a sad environment - like people only go there cos they are sick or dying. Everytime I go there to visit my grandparents, it just fills me with so much sadness. I also ponder a lot about life, aging, disease & death whenever I go to the hospital

It's a working environment that is unlike any others. It's such a tough job but yet someone needs to do it. So I have so much respect for nurses from the bottom of my heart

I heard from dotter 's friend that graduated in degree in nus nursing, most switched lines as they nursing is a dumping ground where no one wanted to go. Such a waste & really think NYP is good enough. If anyone wanted to go management, nyp should consider post grad course instead. A degree is definitely not necessary. Should increase quota of doctors instead.

Usually three things

- see their family again. They will either keep screaming for them if they are not available (can be foreign patients alone here)
- they want to die at home
- this one is not really particular to dying patients but they want the pain to go away (usually cancer patients when the pain just won’t go away)

Actually it’s kind of necessary cos of cos first we all look at “degree” as something bigger than just a post grad cert. and of cos a degree is a a pre requisite before getting a masters

NUS degree is kind of unique cos it’s available to mainly A level holders and not those with diploma in nursing

If you look at civil service, those with diplomas join at this grade and salary, those with degree join at this grade and salary and there is nothing that says those with post grad (but not a degree) join at this grade and salary. We are not civil service but we follow it a lot

Can’t really say but for public sector, a nurse will earn an average of 15 months salary a year so if basic is $3000, it’s $45k yearly

The guide is here. Can’t really say what is the “average” because there are a lot of gaps. Like junior nurses migrate before promotion to senior staff nurse like in a ward I worked, many junior nurses, a few senior nurses and one or two in betweens

Another thing is bed situation

You look at here. Beds occupancy is rarely 100% (think it hit once) but why the long waiting time for beds?

Cos there are many permutations

If I have 10 male patients waiting for beds and I only have 10 female beds available, do I have 10 empty beds or I am short by 10 beds?

I have 10 adult patients but 10 pediatric beds, am I just right or short?

And some beds are blocked for next day surgery patients. You can argue and say hey just give the bed to ane (and it happens), what will happen the next day when the patient comes for surgery and there is now no bed post surgery? Wait? Sure. But it is just kicking the can down the road (now the next day will be even harder to find beds cos there is the daily ane patients plus this extra patient)

Delay surgeries? These are non urgent ones. Sure. This happens in and off like during Covid when surgeons delay surgeries but the problem is, u delay a non urgent surgery for too long u might end up with a true emergency. Then how?

Or ICU has a patient that need to downgrade to normal bed. So the bed is blocked. Don’t block the bed? Then let a patient hog an icu bed?

So that is why sometimes u will hear the hospital is full but at the same time u read the stats it’s not 100% full. A lot of jigsaw puzzle is involved.

at others you you r subjected to protocol at a ward that restrict say water and toilet use.
you might be suffering horribly having to ask for permissions to drink and to urine.
You ask for upgrade and the situation changes. water to drink is available on the table. Toilet is just beside. Beds are empty
and u might be the only one. On the off chance that u want to discharge yourself, u meet barrier. You have to fight it out.
Hospitals can kill you.
If u decide to pay at high class hospital like depositing 15000 upfront your status say as a Merdeka is affected.
You r now rich and Community class clinic might not treat you.
When u get them corrected u might find yourself in danger. They r willing to send a grab taxi free of charge to get your heart examine, your Balls examine.
The normal protrate problem. The girls aka nurses breasts pressed hard into ur body as they work furiously to find a problem to report. They can get frustrated if none exist. There is a push for revenues. In the last examination girl commanded singlion to remove the pyjamas and place them into the bin myself. She was angry.

singlion is an accident victim getting in that crazy world of hospitals, insurance and court.
singlion survives everything they throw at me.
Police wrote me a letter Driver charged.
In dat crazy world lawyer gang up and sent me to see a psychologist and a psychiatrist
They stopped at psycho level singlion got them with simple contract law and the threat to go to the police.
The psycho. 'clinic' is inside a labour foundation blding. Function as a school for young children. Psycho. not present until requested.
Psycho.knew the place is hard to reach. On top of a hill. You have to use TEL MRT underground. Feeder bus only from Toa payoh interchange,
It is as if on purpose. You fail to go for the test. singlion use google to pin down the MRT station. Above ground u can see the Building.
singlion passed with flying color and Psycho asked 'wat sch u attend?'

This seems to be very specific to Muslims

It’s the request of the family that the patient be brought home to die. They would have prepared the bed for the patient. Not sure if there is any religious connotation to it but the bed and bed sheet is prepared

In fact, they don’t care if the patient is still soiled in the hospital and not cleaned. The priority seems to be to get the patient to go home and lie on the bed before death. Even if dirty, never mind. Lie on the bed first.

Never encountered this in any other religious groups. They will want to bring patient home also but never to such urgency and never with the terms “bed has been prepared”.

There is no need for nursing degree imo as it's a technical line & society should not want to start placing high bar entry for the job of caregiver & go paper chasing. It's a calling & those that get respected, hence promoted should be based on sick patients who received good inpatient care & recovery rate under the ward. When you see heartfelt thank you, little gifts from patient & patients' family. These achievements have more recognition than having person with cert but no aptitude or heart in caring for a sick person.

You do have a point

Another issue is that nursing is a degree profession overseas so without a degree, migration might not be so easy if you hope to be an RN overseas

Australia and NZ and UK like no issue. It’s more of USA though.

There is no need to employ so many foreigners.
we can mobilise the army to set up tents and a few Doctors can treat many
No antibiotics is effective. Fatal rate less than 5%.
problem now is severe due to the jabs received
