On the evening of January 8, Myanmar media reported that police had apprehended the mastermind behind the abduction and trafficking of actor Wang Xing near the Thai border. The suspect, nicknamed “Golden Tiger,” also known as Director Yu, hails from Guangdong, China. He owns the largest labor brokerage company in the area” and operates multiple businesses in China.

The individual directly responsible for luring and abducting Wang Xing, named Jin Can, has also been arrested. Jin Can, a subordinate of Golden Tiger, is reportedly involved in about 30% of the group’s trafficking cases. After the news of Wang Xing’s abduction surfaced, some members of the network feared that targeting a celebrity might disrupt their operations, but Golden Tiger dismissed their concerns.

It is revealed that this trafficking group operated under a quota-based reward system. The more people abducted, the higher the reward. Among those, 1st place receives a 20,000 yuan (2,700 USD) bonus, while this figure for 2nd and 3rd places were 12,000 yuan (approx. 1,600 USD) and 6,000 yan (approx 800 USD), respectively.

In this scheme, Victims had their passports confiscated immediately and were mocked for their lack of value if they were older. It is rumored that while Wang Xing was rescued, a ransom of 2 million yuan had to be paid. The atrocities of this cross-border crime syndicate have left the public horrified.

Meanwhile, previously at late night on January 5, Jia Jia, Wang Xing’s girlfriend, posted a plea for help after losing contact with him for days. She revealed that Wang Xing had flown to Thailand on January 3 to join a new film project. By noon the same day, all contact was lost. After three days of fruitless attempts, Jia Jia and Wang Xing’s parents flew to Bangkok on January 6, filing a report with the local police and embassy.

Wang Xing had traveled to Thailand with a fellow actor on the same flight. However, they were separated upon arrival. Deng narrowly escaped, while Wang Xing went missing. Deng later disclosed that he had also been approached by someone to work in Thailand, but he declined due to suspicious contract terms.

According to reports, Wang Xing fell victim to a human trafficking scam. In recent times, the Chinese entertainment industry has seen instances where B- and C-list artists are lured abroad with promises of lucrative film contracts covering all expenses. This bait has attracted struggling actors amid the fierce competition in showbiz. In reality, such offers are traps set by traffickers posing as representatives of major Thai studios like GMM.

On January 7, Wang Xing was found by Myanmar authorities after being missing for 78 hours. He was located near the Mekong River, at the border between Myanmar and Thailand. That evening, he was flown back to Thailand under police escort. However, he has not yet reunited with his family, as investigations are ongoing.

Wang Xing admitted to being scammed by a transnational trafficking ring. Upon arrival in Thailand on January 3, he was instructed to rent a car and travel alone to the Maesot border. There, a stranger picked him up and took him to a building housing over 50 other Chinese nationals. He was shaved bald and forced to learn basic computer skills. Subsequently, he was transported to Myanmar by boat. Wang Xing stated that once he realized he had been trafficked, he dared not resist or escape for fear of risking his life.
