For you, what is a realistic amount to retire with?

I think a very big issue is sinkies see AMDK staying long term in Thailand and such and think it’s easy to do so

They could be doing it illegally or they might have some visas that we are unaware of.
Retiring overseas is more of a romanticized thought than a practical one. Many people say they want to do that but when asked further about the actual steps they don't seem to know how to proceed.

A more practical way is to earn/live in Singapore and spend overseas.

Rent out hdb then spend in Malaysia, Indonesia and Thailand and return once every few months.

But this is only for a while cos as you get older, you are less mobile and it’s not so easy to just keep travelling

Where are you going to stay when you return if you rent out hdb? What happens to all your belongings? Storage space need money too.

Probably not rent out entire hdb flat loh. Must plan out

Singaporeans without visa can stay up to 30 days in Vietnam. If we want to stay for more than 30 days, we need to apply visa which allows us to stay for 90 days. Where did you get the info from which says we can stay for 180 days (6 months)? The visa alone for 90 days stay is 25usd. And I'm not sure Vietnam would allow you to re-enter how often if your intention is to only stay outside of Vietnam for 1-2 days before re entering for a fresh period of time. That's also a risk itself. Getting a spouse just to retire overseas is yet one more additional risk. Which vietnamese spouse would be content to share sgd1.5k per month (before deducting the said costs e.g visa and air tickets)? Retiring in another country isn't as simple as it looks.

Note when you apply visa, they'd ask you what's the reason you want to stay longer in the country. Don't think you can tell them cos you want to retire there as the reason.
The 6 months stay for spouse visa is automatic every time you re-enter Vietnam. I usually go back to Malaysia and Singapore every 3-4 months to visit my family in Malaysia and Singapore for my own business.

There no realistic amt to retire in Singapore if you don't have a HDB flat.
Many foreigners are eyeing our HDB flats. They paying million dola for them and eating at our food stalls.
I recognise them from 3 miles away. Gov. can deny but I see their goHeng marktui cannot escape me.

I don't have HDB flat, sold my condo. Moved money to Vietnam's properties. Now live on CPF money, quite comfortable as no more loans or debt. Cost of living in Vietnam a bit below Malaysia, very affordable if cook at home as fresh foods a lot cheaper than Sg.

I been to both North and south vietnam b4. Walked from north vietnam to China. They left me at the border.
I walked like 15minutes and met chinese immigration. Affter some chinese tea and talk I went into China.

Foreigners can't own properties in Vietnam. Your property money are all with your vietnamese spouse in other words. Are you a vietnamese PR?

No, not Vietnamese PR, just on spouse visa. Yes, properties (lands and houses) in my spouse's name. She is more wealthy than me in terms of her own assets. She also inherited some houses from her late father. We can live very comfortably with the passive incomes from rental plus my own cpf monthly payout.

You definitely don't need cpf payout then. And you also don't seem to need to migrate to retire. With the wealth, can retire anywhere. Money is not an issue to you.

I think the issue is getting long term spouse visa and do u need to pay?
Danger is if thing don't work out you are left with only your 2 balls.
The strange thing foreigners with millions are converging into our area
Another just like the Indonesians Vietnameses are a closely tight community unlike Singaporeans.
You can be yourself. You can find means to defend yourself like singlion buying silver bars and leave beri small balance in Bank.
Digital token means you need approval from me to attack me scam me.

The main problem is that I sold my condo when I divorced. 2/3 of my assets and cash went to my ex-wife and the son. She has full custody of the son. Got to know my present wife after divorce and here I am in Vietnam, living blissfully.
